How to Get the Secret Ending in Days Gone

The Days Gone Secret Ending happens way at the end of the game, even after the credits have rolled on the main campaign. It involves Nero researcher O’Brian, and has some pretty hefty consequences for the series moving forward. We’ve outlined this ending below.

To get the Secret Ending to Days Gone, you’ll first need to have completed the main game. This will be after the Assault of Wizard Island mission. All you have to do after that is keet busy. Take on any of the prologue story missions that you can, and clear up any Nero Research sites that you may have left out, and take down any Camps. After a short while, O’Brian will contact you, and ask you to meet him out by the Old Cemetery (spooky).

Days Gone Secret Ending Explained

The Days Gone Secret Ending has some serious ramifications for the serious, as it introduces a new element to the Freaker virus. O’Brian reveals that his higher ups at Nero, who have been researching the virus, have known all along that the virus has been mutating. In fact, it is mutating to an extent where it will begin to affect the lymphatic system of those currently unaffected. Effectively, the virus is getting stronger, and is taking control of regular humans. The grizzly news is punctuated by the reveal that O’Brian is infected, as he takes off his helmet to reveal a particularly vascular forehead. Even scarier is the fact that he seemingly uses his newfound Freaker powers to leap several feet up to the chopper. He gives Deacon a warning that Nero is coming for everyone, and leaves.

Will There Be a Days Gone Sequel?

The Days Gone Secret Ending clearly hints at a sequel, and from the sounds of it, it will be based around a brand new kind of Freaker. The evolved form, which seem to be essentially human, will likely be the main enemy type in a Days Gone sequel, and Nero will be the main antagonist. What this means for Deacon and the citizens of Lost Lake, we’re not sure. We’ll have to wait and see.

After the end of all things, USG will still be here, putting out quality content. You can find Mike's review of Days Gone here, or check out our interview with the game's creative director here.
