Days Gone: How to Craft Melee Weapons

Melee weapons will be your bread and butter when taking out Freakers at close range. Here’s how to craft them.

Days Gone presents a mix of tactile gunplay and up-close and personal melee combat. The latter is going to be your go-to for when you find yourself overrun with Freakers, and for when you’re trying to quickly dispatch an enemy without alerting their pals. What you’ll want to do is craft your own powerful weapons, so in this guide we’ll show you how to craft melee weapons to wield in combat. We’ll also cover how to repair your melee weapon, and what crafting components you’ll want to keep an eye on.

How to Craft Melee Weapons in Days Gone

From the early hours of Days Gone, you’ll be presented with a message stating that you’ll be able to find more powerful melee weapons out in the world. These are a noticeable step up from your boot knife, though still pale in comparison to the powerful melee weapons you can craft. First, though you’ll need blueprints. To get them, you either need to find them in bunkers hidden under Ambush Camps, or get them as rewards for leveling up. Once you have the blueprint, follow these steps:

  • You’ll need the base weapon required to upgrade it.
  • You’ll also need the correct crafting components.
  • Once you have them, head into the survival wheel with L1.
  • Highlight Melee Weapons and you’ll see options to craft new weapons.
  • Hold R1 to Craft

How to Repair Melee Weapons in Days Gone

With each hit you manage to land on an enemy in Days Gone, your weapon will lose durability. This durability is shown in the bottom-left corner of the screen, though there is a way to repair it on the go. Head into your survival wheel and highlight the weapon you wish to repair. Hold R2 to repair, you will see the Scrap cost associated in the menu.

Days Gone Best Melee Weapon

With so many melee weapons to choose from in Days Gone, you may be wondering which one you should invest your time in. Well, for our money the Baseball Bat Axe is the best melee weapon in Days Gone. It will take out the majority of enemies in one-hit, and has a good damage to use ratio.
