Dark Souls cover art revealed [Update]

If you're asking yourself why you'd care about the cover art for Dark Souls, and also why it's so quiet, it's because the import-happy fanbase is through the link, printing it out, and hugging it gleefully to ourselves in an orgy of anticipation. Sorry.

Andriasang reports From Software released the Dark Souls cover art earlier today.

We've fired off an email to Namco Bandai to ask whether this is a Japan-only cover.

US retailers are currently fielding a black cover with white text, but an alternate artwork is floating around on European retail sites.

[Update] According to Kotaku, the US version of the Dark Souls pre-order bonus Collector's Edition features the EU artwork as a slip cover and another variant on the standard game.

Anyway, check the one's we've got nice big versions of below; Japan on top, EU at the bottom.

The game's spiritual precursor, Demon's Souls, featured three covers, and those released in Europe and the US differed markedly from the original Asian market artwork.

Dark Souls is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October, although Japan is set to see it in September.
