UPDATE: Dark Souls 2 developer From Software bought by Kadokawa Shoten

Dark Souls 2 developer From Software has reportedly been acquired by Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten.

UPDATE:

DualShockers is reporting that the news originated from publisher Kadokawa Shoten's earnings report, which was held in Tokyo last night, and that a following press release stressed that he deal was proposed to expand the reach and capability of both parties.

We will post the press release should an English version become available. Stay tuned.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Gamebiz reports - as translated by Siliconera - that the deal will be made final on May 21, and that Kadokawa stands to purchase 80% of the company's stock. The team is said to be working alongside Kadokawa on its core games.

From Software CEO Naotoshi Zin has since discussed the deal via Famitsu, which when translated suggests that the deal will help From Software tap into new platforms from hardware and cloud tech, and expand its global outreach.

Zin added, "“With a new system, from this point on, I believe we’ll be able to make newer and more in depth games.”

We'll have more on this acquisition as it comes.
