Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 and Xbox One versions seemingly to blame for the delay

Cyberpunk 2077 is seemingly running into trouble on current-gen consoles.

After promising not to delay it again, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red went and pushed the game back by a couple of weeks anyway.

As Cyberpunk 2077 will now avoid the busy November season, many are wondering what compelled the studio to make the shortest delay yet to its release date.

In a conference call with investors following the news, CDPR executives offered a little bit of light on the impetus behind this recent delay. As reported by Pap, the reason seemingly has to do with the game's current state on PS4 and Xbox One. The PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S builds are implied to be in a better state.

"This situation is different compared to previous changes to the deadline," the developer said. "The game for PC is ready and plays well on next-gen consoles and the company is finalizing the process concerning current-gen consoles."

CDPR executives also said that the company does not expect to lose many pre-orders as a result of this. Compared to The Witcher 3 at the same time pre-release, the Cyberpunk 2077 numbers are "continuously very satisfying."

The developer did say, however, that having to shift the marketing campaign's timing could prove a bit more costly than initially planned, but suggested it's too early to tell.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases December 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia. The next-gen versions will receive a free update that enhances visuals and performance sometime after launch.
