Cyberpunk 2077 pre-load is over 100GB, not counting the day one patch

Pre-loading Cyberpunk 2077 ahead of its release on December 10 has already begun across all platforms.

Just how big is the install size though? Reports have varied between platforms but it appears that on PS4/PS5, Cyberpunk 2077 is over 100GB.

According to a Reddit post, pre-loading on PS5 (which is backwards compatible with the PS4 game) weighs in at 102.9GB. That's higher than the reported 70GB the download size for the game on PC. For Xbox users, the pre-load appears to be just under 60GB.

The reason for the huge size on PS4 is likely because it includes the pre-launch patch. This is probably similar to the 'day zero' patch reviewers of the PC version received to deal with the game's many reported bugs and glitches.

YouTuber DreamcastGuy, who managed to receive a retail copy of the game for Xbox One ahead of street date, had posted a tweet showing what appears to be a 43.5GB update, which he refers to as a 'day one patch'.

CD Projekt Red's Fabian Mario Dohla however responded to this tweet to say that this is "not the update we’ll have for launch," which suggests that the day one patch is still to come.

In another Twitter exchange, Dohla claims that "a bunch of issues reviewers encountered (and reported) have been fixed already, some more are part of the update". It's not clear if he's referring to the pre-launch or day one update.

Even reviewers who installed the day zero patch still found some of the same problems remaining, from guns floating in the air to enemies glitching through walls. Nonetheless, he assured console players that "it is a different game with the console update". In the same thread, however, he also suggested that PC users may wish to lower their settings for a smoother performance.

It's unclear why some users seem to be only pre-loading the base game while others are pre-loading both the game and pre-launch patch as one single download. The important thing is you'll want to make extra space on your hard drive as we don't know how big the day one patch will be. It likely won't be the last either.
