Cyberpunk 2077 will treat each language equally, offering full lip-sync for every dub

Cyberpunk 2077 includes a feature most big games with localised languages do not.

CD Projekt Red, known for being a perfectionist studio - even if it means overworking staff - has approached Cyberpunk 2077 localisation with the same determination.

Cyberpunk 2077, like most big games today, is localised in several languages. Depending on the language and the publisher, you don't often get everything everywhere. Most commonly, companies translate the text and record new dialogue and leave it at that.

Rarely do we get actual lip-syncing that matches the spoken language. But apparently not in CD Projekt Red's dystopian RPG. Cyberpunk 2077 senior level designer Miles Tost, and senior quest designer Philipp Weber revealed on Twitter how the game utilises third-party tech by JALI Research that makes it possible for facial animations to change with the language being spoken.

"For our scenes, our animation and cinematic teams of course put great artist-driven work on top of that for the results you see in-game," said Philipp Weber.

JALI, together with CD Projekt Red developers even made a new video to show off the tech in action, and dive a little deeper into how it works, and why it has the potential to save thousands of man hours spent on animation.
