Crystal Dynamics explains how the Tomb Raider Trilogy was remastered for PS3

Karl Stewart, global brand director at Crystal Dynamics, has detailed over on the US PS Blog how the studio remastered its Lara Croft games for the Tomb Raider Trilogy.

According to Stewart, it was a mix of remastering the PS2 versions and porting the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

"All three Tomb Raider games included within the Trilogy pack have been built using the Crystal proprietary engine," he said. "In order to remaster the two PS2 titles previously released, we’ve gone back and reworked the highest available assets from both Legend and Anniversary and this has included reusing some of the HD textures from both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the games."

Stewart also said that thanks to improvements in technology, the PS3 versions of the game will look better than the original Xbox 360 versions once remastered.

The Tomb Raider Trilogy, which contains Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld is set for release in March.

It will not contain the Underworld DLC that was released on Xbox 360.
