Counter-strike has never been more real than in this Virtuix Omni demo

The Virtuix Omni is an omni-directional treadmill which, combined with an Oculus Rift headset and motion controller, is the closest we've yet come to full body video game simulatiors. Just take a look at it in action in this Counter-strike demo.

The most amazing thing about this demo is that it actually all works. The video is edited, of course, but even so it looks like the player holds their own pretty well, apparently against online opponents.

The Omni is currently available for pre-order but like Oculus dev kits, it's not cheap - in fact, at $500 plus shipping, it's probably beyond most of us.

Add in the cost of the Oculus itself, as well as the controller and whatever insane insurance you'd have to take out, and maybe it's not even viable for arcades. If you get one though, let me know - I'll bring the beer. You can do the running.

Is anybody else getting shades of Red Dwarf here? Hopefully your housemates won't wear out the groin attachment, hem hem.

Thanks, Kotaku.
