Counter-strike: Global Offensive Winter Update balance changes rolled back

The latest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update has been a bit of an embarrassment all round.

The Counter-strike: Global Offensive Winter Update dropped last week and was met with more than the usual adjustment disorder flexing.

There was the matter of that unbalanced R8 revolver, but the complaints didn't end when the new gun was nerfed: changes to rifle accuracy, introduced to encourage players to use bursts of fire rather than spray, have not been popular.

The nerf to accuracy has adversely affected burst fire players, and Valve hasn't seen any change to player behaviour as a result of the change - just endless complaints.

"Our implementation failed," Valve wrote in a new developer blog post.

"Since we likely changed too much too quickly, in today’s update we’re rolling back both the rifle and pistol adjustments to their pre-Winter Update state."

Valve said it failed to anticipate community reaction, and "clearly" needs to re-evaluate its process for making and communicating balance changes.

"We still think there’s value in trying to find a better balance for pistols and more skillful ways to use rifles, so we hope to tackle rifles and pistols again in the future," the developer added.
