Community Conversation: How Are You Liking Ni No Kuni 2?

Ni No Kuni 2 has been out for a week now. Let's have a conversation.

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

Ni No Kuni 2 has been out for about a week now. I was ambivalent about some of its choices, but lots of other critics ended up liking it. I'd love to hear what you think of Bandai Namco's new RPG.

This is a slightly new thing that I want to try out on the sight when bigger games come out. We have a great community, as evidenced by the discussions in our weekly Community Questions, but we don't have a lot of opportunities to just talk about games. So let's change that!

We'd love to hear your thoughts on Ni No Kuni 2: the sidequests, the characters, the story so far, the battle system. Please be mindful of and clearly mark spoilers (sadly we don't have a way to hide spoilers, but maybe that's something we can add for later).

It's a brave new world.

To refresh your memory, here's what I wrote in my Ni No Kuni 2 review:

When Ni No Kuni 2 works, it feels like a pleasant throwback to the best days of the PS2. It's very pretty, battles never take very long to complete, and it's fun to watch your tiny kingdom blossom into a full-blown nation state. But there's a lot that drags it down too. The combat is fast and painless, but also fairly shallow. The cel-shading is great, but too much of the action takes place on the simplistic overworld. Building a castle is fun, but it's hard to care about any of the characters outside of Evan and Roland, and progression leans too heavily on fetch quests.

You can hear additional thoughts on Axe of the Blood God, our RPG podcast. And if you're looking for help building out your magic kingdom, here's our guide to building up Evermore in Ni No Kuni 2.

Alright, that's enough from me. What do you think of Ni No Kuni 2?
