Chivalry dev "investing in fans" with free DLC

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare just produced a huge content update which most players would have been happy to pay for, but developer Torn Banner says money is not the point.

"Everyone finds something that works for their business - that's fine. I just think for us it’s more important that people are happy than they are constantly paying for this subscription model," Torn Banner president Steve Piggot said, speaking with Destructoid.

"We are still planning to do expansion packs that cost money, but we’ll always have free stuff for the community."

The content update contains a whopping 13 new maps, five new weapons, and three new game modes. It's the kind of "update" which would have been called an "expansion" in the days before DLC, and to have it turn up for free, four months after launch, is practically unheard of.

"We worked four months to do that thing, that would have made more money if we charged for it, but we are investing in the long term by investing in our fans," Piggot said.
