CD Projekt working on next-gen game engine, has at least five titles in the works

CD Projekt has said its next two titles, scheduled for 2014 and 2015, respectively, will be released simultaneously on PC and next-generation consoles - the later of which the firm is already "starting" on.

The firm has "already started" working on the Red Engine for next-gen systems, and even "prepared a backlog" for new features "quite a long time ago" in anticipation of what the new consoles may be capable of.

"We are definitely starting for new consoles," the firm's managing director Adam Badowski told Eurogamer. "I can tell you we are and we were focusing on powerful gaming rigs. We're going to do something amazing, so we need extra processors. It will be multi-platform game, so the multi-release at the same time. But if you are talking about leading platform, we will use most powerful, just because it can give us the freedom of creation.

"And it's cool to develop something special, new - better than others on the market. It's our goal."

While the firm is unsure what the PC market or next-gen consoles will include in the future, it said it needs to "create something better than we could achieve today," and like other developers do a bit of scrying into the future.

As far as the firm's games in development are concerned, all it would say regarding the AAA+ games it's working on are "something huge and multiplatform" and another is a new RPG IP with just "a few guys right now."

"The second team is just a few guys right now," Badowski said, "because we decided not to split the original Witcher team in two parts, but to hire new staff, and we've just started. [It's] in early pre-production stage, so we don't need the huge team for that.

"The whole scenario is quite simple: we're going to create almost exactly the same kind of team, and our policy is to create RPG games for mature audiences. But of course the second title will be different than the first one. We need to change universe and gameplay mechanics, but the game will be based on a deep scenario as [are] The Witcher games."

"Our approach stays the same, we just want to refresh a little bit our minds and do something different."

However, it was noted that the new IP is "not at all" They, the FPS Metropolis Software was working on when CD Projekt acquired the firm in January 2010.

The firm also has other games in the works: two "A" games for 2012, and one "AA" game for 2013.

The "A" title will be released in Q1 2012, and the firm will announce what it is in the next two months. Some think it has to do with the original Witcher game, but CD stayed mum on the subject.

A second "A" game is coming later this year, and the "AA" title slated for 2013.

So, to reiterate, CD Projekt: is working on an engine for next-gen PC and console systems; has two AAA+ titles in the works - one for 2014 and one for 2015; two "A" games for release in 2012; and one "AA" game slated for 2013.

Sounds like a busy bunch of beavers to us.
