Infinity Ward's new Call of Duty set for E3 2016 gameplay debut

Call of Duty will be at E3 2016. Obviously.

Infinity Ward's new Call of Duty game will be on show at E3 2016, Activision has announced.

"In June, we’re going to be at E3 showcasing gameplay from Infinity Ward’s ambitious new game," the publisher said in a new blog post.

"We’re looking forward to sharing exciting new details about the next great Call of Duty game in partnership with our friends at PlayStation. We’re proud to be participating in this premier video game event, but won’t have an Activision booth on the show floor."

It sounds like Activision's top titles will be on show at Sony's booth - something the two companies have already trialled at international gaming events. (The sweetheart relationship between the two is only getting cuter, isn't it?)

This news is probably of more interest to insiders than general punters, as it's indicative of shifting trends in how publishers choose to communicate with consumers outside the traditional, press-filtered channels. Briefings are now consistently livestreamed to consumers, EA's hosting off-site events this year rather than fronting a booth, and Nintendo's been running consumer-facing events rather than signing up to the press briefing rigmarole for a couple of years.

The ESA might be getting a bit nervous about it, but of course a lot more goes on at E3 than press briefings; the show is a hugely important venue for connecting publishers with retail partners, for example.
