Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is official, releases on October 12

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is official.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 was officially announced today on Twitter.

As you can see in the tweet below, the game will see a full reveal on May 17 and will be released on October 12.

This confirms the growing evidence over the last month or so which pointed to a new entry in the Black Ops series.

Yesterday, a clip showing Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden was posted online, and the logo on the cap he was wearing looked similar to the Black Ops 3 logo.

Unlike the "III" for Blops 3 though, the logo on the hat was "IIII", which is a variation of the roman numeral four. And today's announcement confirms the logo was legitimate.

Even earlier this week, an image said to be of GameStop’s database was posted online, showing Black Ops 4 merchandise in the system. T-shirts and lanyards, and promotional items were listed.

Back in February, industry insider Marcus Sellars said Black Ops 4  was a 'boots on the ground' shooter and would release on Nintendo Switch alongside the usual platforms. The port is said to be in the works with a studio "familiar with COD games.”

Today's announcement didn't mention Switch, just PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Activision and Treyarch will stream the official reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on May 17.
