Call of Duty's new hardest difficulty is as tough as it sounds.

Recently, the full list of trophies for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 leaked online. Among other things, the list revealed the existence of a new difficulty level called Realistic.

This new level is higher than Veteran, which the Call of Duty series always used as its highest difficulty level. According to Treyarch, that name isn't just for show.

"[In Realistic] you have one point of life, so if you're shot once, you're dead. It completely changes the way you play the game," Treyarch's Jason Blundell told Xbox Achievements.

"You all have to survive as a group. You end up respecting the level in a completely different way, and once gunfire opens up, everyone just drops to the ground, because if any one bullet hits you or a grenade goes off near you, you're dead."

Blundell added that the game's AI too had to be adjusted to allow it to make independent decisions.

It was revealed yesterday that Black Ops 3's campaign missions can be played in any order, right from the start.

Black Ops 3 is out November 6 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Last-gen versions do not get the campaign.
