New Call of Duty for consoles and PC coming this year on schedule

A new premium Call of Duty game will inevitably be out later this year.

Activision has confirmed that it's working on a new premium Call of Duty game. The publisher revealed the new game will be available in Q4, just like all the other Call of Duty releases.

Activision did not name the developer behind it, which it usually does as the game gets closer to being revealed. It did, however, call this year's entry "strong", and confirmed that it will tie into Warzone, just like Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War.

Elsewhere in Thursday's earnings call, Activision revealed some impressive stats and revenue all from Call of Duty in Q4 and the full FY2020. Over 250 million people played Call of Duty in 2020, more than three-times higher than the total player base in 2018. The franchise saw 100 million monthly active players over the same period.

Despite the lacklustre reception to Black Ops Cold War, unit sales were still up 40% year-on-year, though that also includes full copies of Modern Warfare. In fact, the currently active season - Season One - has the highest number of Battle Pass activations ever since the model was introduced to Call of Duty.

With the strength of Modern Warfare, the launch of Warzone, the subsequent release of Black Ops Cold War as well as Call of Duty Mobile, the franchise nearly doubled its net bookings in 2020.
