Bungie is making big changes to Control in Destiny 2 PvP

Reducing all modes to 4v4 isn't the only change Bungie is making to Destiny 2's Crucible.

The game's Control mode, is also getting an overhaul that touches many of its most fundamental traits. IGN posted impressions of the updated Control mode and revealed some of what's coming.

For starters, control points will no longer be captured faster when multiple people are within the radius. More drastic, points A and C begin captured by each team respectively.

Crucible design lead Lars Bakken said that this was done so that both teams have one less point to fight over at the start. That said, he points out that it's often the middle one that both teams converge on first. Together with removing the capture speed boost you get when more than one player is capping a point, and you get matches with much faster dynamics.

Capturing a point is also changing, as you'll no longer need to neutralise it first before capping. If you manage to capture all zones, you get to into a 'Power Play' which grants bonus points per kill.

The overall match time is now a bit shorter at eight minutes, and there's going to be a mercy rule when one team is so far ahead of the other. The details of when and how this will kick in are still being finalised, and feedback from the beta will play a role in that.

Speaking of the beta, it's going to include both Control, and Countdown. That's just PvP content, as there's also a story mission and a full strike available for PvE players.

The beta starts off on July 18 for on PS4 for those who pre-ordered the game, and opens up gradually throughout the week.
