Broken Age skipping Early Access, adds season pass, Act 1 releases January 28, new video

Broken Age will not be releasing through Steam Early Access as originally planned, but will instead release with a season pass through the service. The developer has also released a new video showing off the female protagonist, Vella.

Speaking in a backers-only update on Kickstarter, Double Fine said the season pass will contain part one and part two of the title, according to Joystiq.

"You may recall that at one point Broken Age was planned for release under the Steam Early Access program," wrote the developer. "This is no longer the case. For various logistical reasons, and because we believe Act 1 is a polished and satisfying piece of content in its own right, Broken Age will be a standard Steam release that includes a 'Season Pass' granting access to Act 2 once it is complete.

"Anyone who has Act 1 – either by being a backer, or by buying the game separately – will receive Act 2 as a free update when it's ready."

Act 1 is now available to Kickstarter backers as of today.

Those who are not Kickstarter backers can purchase Act 1 of Broken Age on January 28 for PC, Mac and Linux. You can pre-order it now through Steam for 10% off at $22.49.

Act 2,the conclusion of Broken Age, will ship later this year as a free update for all owners of the game. In the future, the game will also ship for Ouya, iOS, and Android.
