Brenda, John Romero to oversee new UC Santa Cruz master's degree

Industry veterans Brenda and John Romero will oversee UC Santa cruz's new 12 month master's degree program in games and playable media.

GamesIndustry reports Brenda Romero (formerly known as Brenda Brathwaite) has been appointed as program director, while John Romero is the creative director.

John Romero in particular is notorious for his work on Daikatana, but both Romero's have been involved in high profile projects throughout their careers. they founded Loot Drop, and their credits include Wizardry, Jagged Alliance, Doom, Ghost Recon: Commander, and many more. The pair both have academic backgrounds (Brenda, in particular, was named UCSC's designer in residence) and were married last year, to everybody's delight.

Other notable games industry insiders involved with the program include SimCity creator Will Wright, Arkane Studios' Harvey Smith, Spelunky designer Derek Yu, thatgamecompany and Tiny Speck veteran Robin Hunicke and more.

The games and playable media master's program is a new track at the Basking School of Engineering, and application for the 2014-2015 academic year will open in October.
