Breath of the Wild: How to Buy a House and Furniture as Part of the Hylian Homeowner Quest

If you want to settle down and have a roof over your head in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then Link can purchase a house. In this Zelda Breath of the Wild house guide, we'll be walking you through how to buy a house in Breath of the Wild, which is actually a fair bit easier than it first sounds.

On this page:

How to Get a House in Breath of the Wild

To get a house in Breath of the Wild, you'll need the following:

  • 3,000 Rupees - follow our guide on how to earn rupees quickly
  • 30 Wood Bundles - find wood bundles by chopping down trees

Get hold of these items before heading over to the quest location, then you’ll be able to hand over everything you need without leaving the area again.

Where to Find the House

Head over the bridge in the new housing area to find Link's house

On the southern side of Hateno Village, east of the village entrance is a small area of new build houses. If you walk across the bridge there is an older house that is in the process of being demolished due to an extended period of vacancy. This is the house Link can buy.

How to Complete the Hylian Homeowner Quest

Bolson is round the back of the house

Head to the back of the house and you'll spot a man wearing pink trousers. This is Bolson. Speak to him and he'll initially offer to sell you the house for 50,000 rupees, which is an incredible amount of money that you're unlikely to have. Thankfully this is reduced to 3,000 rupees if you agree to bring Bolson 30 wood stacks. This starts the Hylian Homeowner Quest.

Assuming you've already amassed the rupees and wood needed, talk to him again to hand over the wood, then again to pay the cash. The house is now yours to do with as you please. It comes complete with a weapon mount, allowing Link to store three weapons on it to retrieve later.

How to Furnish Your House

Additional items of furniture can be bought from Bolson at 100 rupees each. Simply talk to him, tell him what you want, and hand over the money.

Now you own a home you'll want to make sure you can cook delicious meals using the best recipes (there's a cooking pot just outside) and have enough money to buy everything you want to decorate it. You'll need to be alive to do that, though, so it's worth finding out how to kill Guardians and respec Links health and stamina.

With a house to call your own you can head off into the sunset to tackle whatever is thrown at you, safe in the knowledge that you can return to Hateno Village at any point and have a safe place to sleep (assuming you've bought a bed).
