Study: Brain MRI while gaming allows scientists to "map the ethereal concept of attention"

thebrainongames

Matt Richtel, a blogger for The New York Times, recently took part in a University of California study which took an MRI of his brain while he played a racing videogame to determine his brain's ability to multitask.

Apparently, the results of the study conformed to current literature on the matter, which states the brain starts losing the ability to multitask during a person's 30s and then more sharply while in their 40s.

The study was used as one example of the different ways researchers are using brain imaging technology to "map the ethereal concept of attention".

You can look over scans of the blogger's brain through the link up top, and judge how dispassionate the brain looks for yourself.

Maybe Richtel's scan would have shown more activity if the scientists had him play something a bit more cerebral. Then again, we're not scientists.
