Bloodborne guide: Cainhurst Vilebloods covenant

Bloodborne players are yet to unlock all the secrets of covenants, but several have been identified and the basics of joining and effects are pretty well sorted out. Here’s what we know about the first of these optional allegiances.

Cainhurst Vilebloods covenant

Bloodborne players who enjoy PvP should consider the Cainhurst Vilebloods, a covenant focused on PvP duelling and invasions.

Vilebloods can rise through the ranks of the covenant by collecting Blood Dregs, dropped by Hunter enemies and other players if covenant members have the Corruption Rune equipped.

By joining the covenant players attain rank one and are awarded the Respect gesture. At level two they receive the Deep Respect gesture. No further rewards are known at this time.

The Cainhurst Vilebloods have a rivalry with the Executioners. If you join the Vilebloods and attempt to summon a co-op partner, you may find you summon an Executioner instead. The Executioner will appear as a normal co-op spectre, but the message that appears when they arrive will read "[player name] arrived by the bell's resonance" instead of "The Bell's resonance has beckoned [player name]".

You can find a list of all current members of the Vilebloods on the Vileblood Register, found in Forsaken Cainhurst Castle.

How to join the Cainhurst Vilebloods

You must have access to Forsaken Cainhurst Castle to join this covenant.

After defeating Martyr Logarius, equip the Crown of Illusions found nearby to reveal the door to the Vilebloods' domain. Pass through and use the Kneel gesture before the throne. You can then speak with Annalise, Queen of the Vilebloods and join the covenant.

Annalise awards you the Corruption Rune, which must be equipped in order to harvest Blood Dregs from hostile players and NPC Hunters, as well as the Cainhurst Badge. This in turn allows you to purchase the Chikage and Reiterpallasch weapons, the Evelyn firearm and the Cainhurst attire set.

What to do if Annalise, Queen of the Vilebloods is dead

If you have killed Annalise, or she has been killed by Alfred, you can resurrect her in order to join the Vilebloods or continue your progress through the ranks. First, collect the Queenly Flesh from her body.

With this item in your possession, travel to the Temple of Despair, accessed through a window you can break after defeating the Celestial Emissary in Upper Cathedral Ward, and beat optional boss Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos.

You can then use the Queenly Flesh on the Altar of Despair in the Upper Cathedral Ward, resurrecting Annalise.
