Blizzard's Overwatch has dedicated servers and custom matches

Overwatch acknowledges the need of the PC massive, of course.

Overwatch is a team shooter from Blizzard, which might not have a lot of FPS experience but knows exactly what the PC audience demands.

Speaking with Kotaku, game director Jeff Kaplan and principal game designer Geoff Goodman confirmed the multiplayer game will run on dedicated servers rather than peer-to-peer hosting.

What it won't support is private servers or LAN play - everything will run through Battle.net. A custom game option will still allow you to restrict your play to friends or specific set ups, and Blizzard is looking into solutions to keeping ping under control for those who rely on custom servers to counteract the lag effects of being, for example, Australian.

Overwatch has not been dated, but a closed beta is supposed to kick off sometime over the next few months. Sign up with your Battle.net account.
