Blizzard brings back the Battle.net name, now that it knows nobody stopped calling it that

Blizzard has once again changed the name of its desktop app, this time to bring back the iconic Battle.net branding.

Last year, the developer revealed a plan to transition away from the name, which culminated with renaming the app back in March to simply say Blizzard.

Of course, everyone kept calling it Battle.net, since it's the name fans have been using for years. The developer recognised this, and decided to re-implement the old moniker without compromising the reason it was changed in the first place..

From now on, the app will be called Blizzard Battle.net. "When we announced that we’d be transitioning away from the Battle.net name for our online-gaming service, we suspected that the shift would be challenging," Blizzard said in a blog post.

"We understood that Battle.net stood for something special - it represents years of shared history and enjoyment, community and friendship, for all of us and our players."

"Take it from the developer formerly known as Silicon & Synapse, and Chaos Studios, names are important too," the post joked.

The Blizzard Battle.net app is the only way to play the developer's games on PC. Very soon, the app will feature its first non-Blizzard game when Destiny 2 releases on PC. We're going to find out exactly how this is all going to work during the beta later this month.
