Bethesda is teasing something with pink paint and "5-14" [Update]

Bethesda has been dropping hints and teasers on Twitter for the past couple of days, for something.

Update: Following the publication of this story, Bethesda dropped another, much less subtle tease. As you can see in the image, it shows a (likely fictional) bus tour company called Anarchy Tours.

The original Rage featured the Anarchy symbol in much of its art, and even had a special Anarchy Edition at launch. Then there's the lady in the middle, who clearly looks like she came straight out of Rage's world.

Unless Bethesda is intentionally misleading everyone, it's pretty safe to assume the tease is Rage-related.

Original story: Bethesda's teases are very mysterious, so it's not immediately clear exactly what the publisher wants us to see. There are some consistent themes in all teasers, though, which could lead us to an answer.

The first was this picture of the Big Ben. The clock is pointing to 5:14, and it looks like someone took a paintbrush dripped in pink to the top part of its face. So 5:14 and pink.

Bethesda followed that up with this image of a rocket heading to space. Once again, 5-14 shows up on the side and the rocket's tips have been painted pink. The clouds also have a pink tint.

We're not sure what the colour pink is supposed to signify, but 5-14 could simply pointing to May 14. If Bethesda is prepping an announcement for Monday, this would be a good way to get everyone watching for something on that day.

That said, the third image doesn't prominently feature 5-14 like the previous two, just the colour pink. There are five patches of asphalt covered with pink paint in the image, but I don't see where 14 would be hiding.

Why pink? We're not sure, but the colour has people thinking it's a Rage 2 teaser. The reason being that Rage 2 was among the games listed in Walmart Canada's massive dump the other day, which included many other supposed upcoming games like Gears of War 5 etc.

When Bethesda caught wind of the "leak", the official Twitter account for Rage 2 decided to mock the placeholder listing, pointing out style inconsistencies, lack of a cover art, incorrect font and so on. It's done all of that with the help of some pink doodles, along with the Rage logo.

The account even changed its profile picture to be a cropped image of that cover with pink doodles over it. So there's a connection there.

If Rage 2 is indeed being announced this year, it would make sense for Bethesda to keep it until E3. Then again, 5-14 (if it's even a date) could just be the start of another teaser campaign and we may not necessarily get something concrete.

Whatever it ends up being, we'll be watching.
