Battlestar Galactica Online passes 5M registered players, gets an update

Bigpoint has announced its browser-based, free-to-play space-combat MMO, Battlestar Galactica Online has surpassed 5 million registered players worldwide since its February launch.

The game, which recently won Best Browser Game at the 2011 European Games Awards, also has new content on the docket, which includes a new line of Fleet Recon ships beginning mid-month. The ships will be made available through Cubits, BSGO’s in-game premium currency, which can be earned through gameplay or purchased with real money.

Other content updates include: advanced ship models, and sometime this fall the Brimir Class Carrier will also be made available.

Bigpoint said the game attracts over 25,000 new players every day.
