Battlefield, PayDay designer's new game lets you scuttle about on little monster claws and eat Vikings

An alternate history of the Vikings in which you can chew their faces off. Nice.

You may recall former Battlefield and Payday designer David Goldfarb struck out for independence, founding a small Swedish team called The Outsiders to make an RPG.

I don't know what sort of thing you were imagining but it didn't occur to me that this pitch might mean a first-person action game in which you play some sort of mythological beastie.

Called Project Wight, it's an alternate history in which the world is host to the last remnants of a forgotten species; that explains the working title, then, since "wight" usually means some sort of supernatural being.

The video above gives us a look at the game in action, as viewed through the eyes of two of these creatures - a juvenile and an adult. How excellent is the head bob camera while scurrying about on little creature claws? I'll tell you: extremely excellent.

No word on release date or any further gameplay details surfaced today, but let us hope the Outsiders feel more loquacious soon. Earlier comments about this project suggest it will have a "dynamic story" and release on PC first.

In the meantime, hungry for further information, I have discovered that a piece of concept art on the Outsiders website depicts Gaunt and Piotr fighting in a cave. To me, "gaunt" sounds like a type of creature rather than a character name.

Is this intel useful? Probably not. But it has the illicit tang of being ripped from a filename, which I enjoy.
