UPDATE: Battlefield Hardline PS4 beta keys going to Sony's E3 guests

Sony's new Battlefield Hardline promotion is one of the stranger methods of distributing beta keys we've seen so far, and new information from a source seems to back up what we've been hearing about it this week.

UPDATE: IGN has lent weight to rumours that those who RSVP for Sony's E3 2014 cinema briefings will receive a PS4 beta access code ahead of the shooter's Fall launch. A source close to the site has allegedly confirmed that this is the case, and that the chosen beta map is indeed High Tension.

Venture on for the full story.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sony has invited PlayStation fans to view its E3 2014 press briefing at selected cinemas. It sounds like a fun way to watch the show with your fellow gamers, but there's an added bonus in the works, apparently.

According to NeoGAF users, those who've RSVP'd to the event have been emailed a PS4 beta code for Battlefield: Hardline, the recently-announced cops-and-robbers shooter form Dead Space developer Visceral Games.

Since it's totally free to attend, that's a pretty sweet deal. If you're keen to get on board, you can find more information about the event on the PlayStation Blog and grab your tickets on this list of participating cinemas.

It looks like the beta is called the Omaha Demo, and will include "two new game modes" on a map called High Tension. Sony claims this is "one of the first" opportunities to try the game.

EA confirmed Battlefield: Hardline with a piece of art after the first trailer leaked online. It was pulled, but don't worry - the publisher said we'd see more at E3, and Dave jotted down all the pertinent details. The cops-and-robbers affair is available for pre-order on PC ahead of a northern autumn release, and this beta offer seems to confirm a PlayStation 4 release; we can probably expect it on Xbox One at the very least if not PS3 and Xbox 360.

Don't worry; DICE has vowed not to abandon Battlefield 4 even as Hardline gives the Battlefield franchise a much-needed shake-up, according to Dave.

Thanks, Gematsu.
