7 million players tried the Battlefield: Hardline beta

Battlefield: Hardline attracted a record number of participants with its latest beta.

According to Battlefield Hardline producer Steve Papoutsis, over 5 million players logged into the open beta.

Update 2: A day after announcing 6 million players tried out the Battlefield Hardline btea, the game's official Twitter account revealed 7 million actually participated.

The open beta for the multiplayer ends today.

Update: Literally minutes after this article went live, EA issued an update saying the beta had hit another record of 6 million players served.

"We’re thrilled that now more than 6 million of you have gotten your hands on the game," Papoutsis wrote.

"We appreciate the response and feedback we have gotten from you in the forums, on social media and while playing with you online.

Now, I know what you’re asking yourself. We’re just five weeks away from the launch of Battlefield Hardline, how could we possibly be acting on that feedback? Well, I can assure you we are. In fact, we’ve already been prioritizing changes for things fans are talking about. So you’ve still got a chance to be heard."

As Gamespot pointed out, Hardline's beta has attracted more testers than Destiny managed - and that itself was a record breaker.

Of course, Battlefield: Hardline has an established fan base and a PC version, which gives it an advantage over Bungie's latest, but given that this is the game's second beta test it seems to bode well for EA. It seems to have gone down well, judging by the online buzz - maybe thanks to all the improvements Visceral made. EA made a good call delaying the game from its intended late 2014 launch, it seems.

Battlefield: Hardline is coming to PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on March 17 in North American and March 19 in Europe and beyond. Did you try the beta? I did, and so did Matt - and of course our resident Battlefield expert, Westie.

The beta ends at on Monday night, Pacific time, so get in quick if you want to try it out and give Visceral your feedback.
