Battlefield 5 TTK is going back to its launch values

The saga of Battlefield 5's TTK gains a new chapter, with DICE now reverting everything back to normal.

Just one day after explaining the reasoning behind recent TTK changes in Battlefield 5, DICE has now gone back and reverted the damage model to its original launch values.

This change is taking place today in a server-side update, at 4am PT, 7am ET, 12pm UK. Once it's done, you'll no longer see the Core playlist and everything will be how it was at launch.

In yet another community update, the developer said the change was made after reviewing data and taking into account player feedback, which has largely been against altering the TTK.

"Our intent with the TTK changes was to see if we could evolve the Battlefield V experience and make it more enjoyable for new players, whilst also making sure the Battlefield vets have a choice with a more 'core' experience suiting their preferred play-style," wrote DICE.

"Clearly we didn’t get it right. Veteran players didn’t ask for the change, but as game developers, we took it upon ourselves to make those changes based on extensive data and deliberation. It truthfully wasn’t an easy decision for us."

This has been a learning experience for the team, however, as it particularly highlighted other problems around the time to death experience like damage stacking and how subtle damage indicators can be in some cases, all of which are now given more attention.

With that in mind, the developer admitted it has struggled for a long time to onboard new players onto the series. This TTK experiment is seen as a step towards making the game more accessible to new players without sacrificing the core players who have stuck around for years.

This should hopefully get veteran players back into the game, as there's a new Tides of War mission kicking off this week. Finishing the mission will unlock the Selbstlader 1906 self-loading rifle.
