Though not totally surprising, the PC version of Battlefield 1 will be a digital-only title in North America.

Battlefield 1 PC won't be released on disc in North America

If you're going for the PC version of Battlefield 1, you can only do so digitally. EA announced today that it doesn't plan to sell PC discs in North America.

Battlefield 1 will still have a physical version on PC, which will simply include a download code. The publisher confirmed this to PCGamer after the site spotted the listings on Amazon and GameStop.

"Here in North America, there will be a PC box version that you can buy in stores that will have a code in the box and no disc," a representative told the site.

"If you buy that same PC box version Internationally, some countries will offer a disc inside."

In Europe and the UK, it appears the PC version comes with a disc as pre usual.

PC gaming has moved almost exclusively to a digital-only model more than a few years ago. Save for very few major titles, PC players rarely ever consider disc versions. With many of today's games requiring day one patches and the like, the copy on disc is almost always outdated.

With that said, those in places with limited internet quotas or slow speeds are out of luck on this one.

Battlefield 1 is out October 21 on PC and consoles.
