Battlefield 1: If you want to win, pull your finger out and give and follow orders

An important public service announcement. Please.

Listen. Battlefield players. We need to have a talk. Do you want to win? Here's one quick trick to win Battlefield matches! EA will hate it!

Give squad orders. Follow squad orders.

It's really that simple. Team VG247 has been playing a fair bit, but it's alarming how many people aren't using this most simple but also most vital aspect of Battlefield 1's gameplay systems. If you're a squad leader, you can give orders. If you're in the squad, you should be following them. This might seem like obvious advice, but this is what it's come to.

Giving orders has multiple benefits, but here's the real kicker: giving orders will drop an objective onto the map of your squad. If you complete the objective given such as to attack or defend a particular point on the map you'll be granted bonus points. We talked about this in our guide to leveling up, but that'll in turn help you grind up the XP to rank up more quickly to get you to better guns and more war bonds.

On top of that, you'll be taking a more directed approach to completing objectives and actually making yourself far more likely to win the match. It's a win-win.

If you find yourself as the squad leader, you just have to hold down your spot button in order to open up the menu that lets you issue commands.

For PC users that's the Q key, and if you're on console you'll want to hit R1/the right bumper. Press and hold and a circular menu will appear. Press in a direction and issue an order. This is easy to do while still moving around, so you don't even have to stop to get this done.

If you're not the squad leader, follow the orders you're given, obviously.

To make sure you've got a full squad, make sure you're unlocking your squad by clicking the little lock icon that's on the squad screen.

Seriously, people - use your squads properly! The XP bonuses for doing so are major, and it'll make everyone's lives easier.
