Battlefield 1 - here's our first look at the new 5v5 competitive mode, Incursions

Battlefield 1's recently announced competitive mode, Incursions, sounded very fresh the first time we heard about it at gamescom.

Now, we get to see it in action thanks to new gameplay footage. Incursions is a 5v5 mode that throws almost everything you know about standard Battlefield 1 out of the window in favour of new mechanics and a more competitive feel.

This also extends to classes, which have been completely revamped in Incursions. The mode features three flags that need to be captured in order, starting with the one closest to your base. As you can see in Westie's video below, the map shown is a modified version of Giant's Shadow specifically made for the mode.

Interestingly, all the destruction that takes place during the first half gets reset between rounds, something other community-made competitive modes couldn't do. Unlike regular modes, Incursions has its own unique scoring system. This multi-layered approach starts with sets, which are made up of 15 tickets each.

You gain tickets by killing other players (one), destroying tanks (one), and over time by holding on to more flags than the other team. Reviving teammates sets the enemy team back one ticket. The first team to score 15 tickets, wins the set and earns one point. Halftime kicks in when ten sets have been achieved, and the winning team must get 11 points.

You should definitely watch all the way through, as Westie goes on to explain why the inclusion of vehicles may not actually be a bad thing.

The closed alpha for Incursions starts this month.
