Awesomenauts developer staying independent after 'bad' experience with bankrupt publisher

Ronimo Games, developer of Awesomenauts, is turning to crowd-funding to fund projects. The decision follows what studio head Jasper Koning describes as a "pretty bad experience" with former publisher DTP Entertainment. The company filed for bankruptcy shortly after the game was released last year.

Koning has told Polygon that around half of all profits from sales of Awesomenauts go directly to a representative firm for DTP Entertainment.

Now Ronimo Games is turning to Kickstarter to fund Awesomenauts: Starstorm. It has a goal of $125,000. Koning won't completely rule out working with a publisher again, but his experience has soured him on the idea. "It depends on the circumstances," he said, "But as long as we don't have to, we won't."

Awesomenauts is currently on track to be a release title for PlayStation 4. In the mean time you can find it on Steam right this second.
