The Astral Chain 'action' trailer is a nine minute introduction to the game's unique combat and world

Astral Chain is just over a month away, and this new trailer is designed to build up the hype for its impending release.

Astral Chain is the latest game from Platinum Games, the action maestros behind Bayonetta and Nier: Automata. There are elements of both of those games that have seeped into this one, if the trailer is anything to go by.

The trailer starts with a bit of plot introduction, before moving into the combat basics, showing combat with melee weapons, guns, and your summonable 'Legion', which will attack enemies while remaining tethered to you by a chain.

Working with your Legion is important - as the video shows, using the Legion to distract an enemy so you can heal is one example of an effective move. The chain itself can be useful too, as you can use it to grab enemies, hold them in place, or throw them.

There are sync attacks too, which operate a lot like Bayonetta's witch time, except that instead of slowing down time you can unleash powerful attacks right away. Your Legion's time in battle is limited, though, so it's important that you use it wisely.

There's more in the trailer above, including a breakdown of the five different types of Legion. All up, it's a pretty good look at what to expect from the game.

Astral Chain launches exclusively for Switch on August 31. We think it's going to be good, although we'll have to play it ourselves before passing final judgement.
