Assassin's Creed lawsuit fizzles out

The author who accused Ubisoft for copyright infringement over the Assassin's Creed games has voluntarily dropped his suit.

Gamasutra reports Link author John Beiswenger has chosen to dismiss his earlier claims in order to focus on "unrelated business matters".

By dropping his case now with, Beiswenger will be permitted to pursue the matter further at a later date should he so choose, according to legal representative Kelley Clements Keller.

“My client’s decision to exercise his right to voluntarily dismiss the action, without prejudice, in no way diminishes his stalwart conviction in the merit of his claims against Ubisoft. He is unwavering in his belief that many key components of the Assassin’s Creed video game franchise infringe on many key components of his novel, Link," Keller said.

"We believe Ubisoft has engaged in egregious acts of copyright infringement and, should he choose to seek redress through the courts in the future, we remain confident that a trier of fact would agree.”

The ceasefire comes a little too late for GameTrailers, which chose to settle out of court after being roped into the case for publishing Assassin's Creed trailers.

Besiwinger's case claimed Ubisoft had infringed his copyright on Link, which involves viewing history from the viewpoint of one's ancestors, assassinations, and religion.
