Arms update includes Hedlok versus mode which turns one player into the formidable fighter

Along with the new fighter Max Brass, tomorrow's Arms update will also include a balancing pass along with a new versus mode.

The Arms update coming on July 12 will include a versus mode allowing players to control the fighter Hedlok.

How it works, is two to three players will battle it out in order to grab a Hedlok mask. The player which acquires the mask first, will then be able to equip it and in the process turning themselves into the fighter.

"If one player turns into Hedlok it'll be up to the other players to take him down," Arms producer Kosuke Yabuki told Eurogamer. "The Hedlok mode won't just be available in one v one versus modes - it'll be available online and in every multiplayer mode."

Balancing in Arms will be done in a way so as "not to make any character less good than they are at the moment," said Yabuki.

“One thing I definitely think about, and that I’m not a fan of, is when it’s possible to win using one technique over and over again, repeating the same thing and winning like that," he said. "That’s something, in terms of the game balance, that we’re thinking about and trying to adjust it so that’s not possible.”

Kid Cobra is one fighter getting a bit of balancing. While he'll still be able to repeatedly jump and punch, it won't be "quite so powerful.”

Along with the aforementioned, a new stage will also be made available with the update. Patch notes will published tomorrow when the update goes live.
