ARK: Survival Evolved price hike "is f**king outrageous," says DayZ creator Dean Hall

ARK: Survival Evolved doubled its price on Steam last week as the game is now closer than ever to its official release in August.

Still in Steam Early Access, the ARK's developer Studio Wildcard faced criticism from fans for asking for $60 overnight. But not all disgruntled voices are on the Steam forums, as DayZ creator Dean Hall has weighed in on the situation.

Hall, who no longer works on the troubled DaZ mod, called the move "f**king outrageous" in a Tweet.

Hall believes that ARK: Survival Evolved is "nowhere near ready" for primetime, and definitely not for $60. The creator said that the move "represents a huge disconnect with the community."

In a different Tweet, Hall stressed that he's "huge fan" of the game, but he fears this will set a "terrible precedent." "If you want to charge an AAA price, have an AAA state," he added.

Garry Newman, Garry's Mod creator who is currently working on Rust - and Early Access survival game, pointed out that the move doesn't actually seem to be hurting the game or its makers, and there's perhaps something there other developers can learn from.

ARK: Survival Evolved officially comes out of Early Access on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 8. Dean Hall's current studio, RocketWerkz, is working on Stationeers.
