Apple TV to serve as a games console with next hardware refresh - rumour

Rumours suggests Apple is finally getting into the console game with its next Apple TV set top box device.

Both 9to5Mac and iLounge have reported the rumour, citing anonymous sources.

The new version of the Apple TV is said to be "well into testing" and expected in the first half of 2014, depending on content partnerships.

Apple is believed to be working on Bluetooth-powered controllers for the new device, which will run games directly rather than streaming them from other Apple devices like iPhones.

The set top box will allegedly have an operating system based on iOS, and speculation is rife that it will have a dedicated App Store.
