Apex Legends player discovers inconsistent hitbox for Pathfinder, Respawn looking into it

The hitboxes for Legends in Apex Legends are generally fairly accurate, but one player found them to be uneven for Pathfinder.

Pathfinder, of course, being the agile, grapple hook-wielding hero in Apex Legends. Unlike most of the roster, Pathfinder's hitbox appears to extend around it in a way it doesn't for the rest of them.

This creates a mismatch between what you see, and what the game considers part of Pathfinder's body. Mismatched hitboxes could lead to characters appearing bigger than they are, and can potentially make it harder to line up shots accurately since shots you don't expect to register would, and vice versa.

YouTuber SookieSpy showed this off in a video released last week, which you can watch below.

Posts discussing the issue blew up on the game's subreddit since then, but luckily, developer Respawn Entertainment is aware of these concerns.

"We are definitely aware of it and we were actually discussing it today. I can't say anything more for now but we hear you guys," wrote community manager Jay Frechette.

Hitboxes will always be a sticky subject in shooters, especially those where characters have varying body types. On one hand, you want the hitbox to always match the character's outline for consistency, and readability. On the other, a perfect hitbox could potentially render the smallest characters harder to hit compared to the more bulky ones.
