APB on consoles to be "a different game that fits better"

Move over, cops vs. robbers. Make way for keyboard and mouse vs. gamepad.

Speaking with Develop, APB lead designer EJ Moreland was adamant that Realtime Worlds hasn't abandoned consoles in favor of PC. Instead, his company - like an expert robber - is merely casing the console joint, figuring out what works and what doesn't.

“Usually when you play a console-to-PC port, or vice-versa, it’s usual that the game won’t work as well as it did on its original platform. So for us, what we see for APB on consoles – and we’ve had discussions about this – is to make a different game that fits better for the system," he said.

“Honestly from my experience, as someone who plays PC and console games, I had strong concerns that the game we were making for PC wasn’t going to be viable on console. We would want to do some things to make the game much more console-centric.”

For now, however, Realtime Worlds is focusing on fine-tuning the game's PC version, which is set for release on July 2. As a result, the developer currently doesn't have anything set in stone for when it will begin developing APB on consoles.

But hey, let's look on the bright side: "console-centric" leaves plenty of room for all the latest and greatest console-only technology. Are you thinking what we're thinking? Yep. Wii Vitality Sensor and Tony Hawk Ride board support.

Huh? That's not what you were thinking?
