Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Rid of Tree Stumps

If you need to clear out some space on your island, you'll need to take care of any pesky tree stumps there are lying around. Here's how to dig out Tree Stumps.

If you get rid of trees on your Animal Crossing New Horizons island you'll be left with tree stumps. These will block construction and generally just get in the way, so you'll want to get rid of them. This is easier said than done, as the game doesn't really explain how to dig out Tree Stumps. Let's take a look at how to do so.

How to Get Rid of Tree Stumps

To remove Tree Stumps from your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons you'll need a shovel. Head to Tom Nook's DIY crafting table and you can graft one using tree branches. Alternatively you can purchase one from Timmy (head here for more info on the shop). Once you have one, walk up to a stump with the shovel equipped and press A. This will dig up the stump. Press A again to cover the hole you've made.

What Can You Do With Tree Stumps?

Digging up a Tree Stump will give you some wood (more on wood here). If you choose to leave it where it is, you can sit on the Tree Stump by walking towards it. Because of this, Tree Stumps can function as outdoor seats, and look quite nice when positioned around a campfire or by one of the surrounding rivers. It's up to you whether you want to keep Tree Stumps around.

Do Tree Stumps Grow Back?

Tree stumps will not grow back into trees. If you want to have a tree grow in the place of a tree stump, you'll need to plant one.
