Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to get the King Tut Mask

Along with all of the other summery delights, Animal Crossing New Horizons players can now also get their hands on one of the most famous masks in history: the death mask of the storied Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, King Tutankhamun.

Called the “King Tut Mask” in-game, this headwear has the unique ability of making your villager trip and fall to the ground when you run around.

Many players have speculated as to why this might be. Is the King Tut Mask just too heavy? Could it be a joking nod to Tutankhamun’s apparent death from the complications of a broken leg?

Or more likely it’s a reference to the Curse of the Pharaohs, where bad luck was said to befall archaeologists that desecrated Egypt’s historic sites.

Luck as a mechanic played a much larger role in previous Animal Crossing games, where Feng Shui and fortune telling had a demonstrable effect on gameplay - as discussed in the embedded video from AbdallahSmash026 below:

Some fans have speculated that the King Tut Mask’s addition to ACNH could hint at more luck-themed systems and content to come.

How to get the King Tut Mask in ACNH

Adding the King Tut Mask to your burgeoning wardrobe is simple, but easier said than done.

Following the most recent update to Animal Crossing New Horizons, when you pick up a gold nugget collected from a rock - which we have a full page on, here - your villager will have an epiphany and think up the DIY crafting recipe.

From there, you’ll be able to craft the King Tut Mask from 5 gold nuggets.

A hefty price, but one that will be worth paying for this top status symbol.

Be sure to fully hit all of your island’s rocks every day to maximize your chances of grabbing what you need, as well as frequently venturing out to Nook Miles Islands.

For more on what’s new in ACNH, we have a full page on Dream Access Codes in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
