Animal Crossing New Horizons: Character Customization and How to Change Your Appearance

There's a bunch of customization options for your character in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here's what you can choose from, along with how to change your appearance later on in the game.

Animal Crossing New Horizons continues the series' trend of giving players a ton of options when customizing their character. You can also alter your appearance whenever you like, so you're not locked into choices you make initially. In this guide we'll detail the customization options available, and show you how to change your appearance while playing.

On this page:

Character Customization

At the start of Animal Crossing New Horizons you'll be asked to design a character. There are a lot of options, more than ever before, including hair style, nose and mouth shape and more. Let's take a look at what's on offer.

Animal Crossing has always had some pretty interesting options for your character's nose and mouth, and New Horizons is no exception. Those of you who made Mii characters back in the day will be right at home with what's on offer so just go with whatever you think suits your character so far.

Cheek Color and Style

Finally, we have Cheek colors and styles. There aren't all that many to choose from, though you'll be able to purchase new ones using your hard-earned Nook Miles. You can add a blush color to your character and then you're all set.

How to Change Your Appearance

If you're not happy with your character's appearance, or simply want to change things up a bit, you'll need a mirror or vanity. These are items you can add to your tent or house (more info on getting a house here), so once you have one just interact with it. You'll be given the option to change up your look, easy.

How to Get New Hair Styles and Customization Options

While you'll start with a fairly limited suite of character customization options, there are opportunities to purchase more. The Nook Miles Store will allow you to trade Nook Miles for new packs of hair styles, colors, and other options. Generally, new character packs will cost around 2,000-3,000 Nook Miles. You'll get around 300 per challenge you complete, so they're not too pricey.
