Analyst: app download rate to overtake music, software

Industry analyst Asymco estimates that app download rates are not only accelerating, but set to overtake other markets.

Asymco predicts that the rapidly accelerating rate of app downloads will soon be greater than that of music, and eventually overtake PC software sales.

App downloads reached 10 billion in less than half the time of music downloads, suggesting the total number of apps downloaded to date will shortly pass that of iTunes music purchases to date.

By Asymco's reckoning, over 60 apps have been downloaded for every iDevice sold, up from ten just two years ago.
