Alternate Death Stranding teaser trailer is even more haunting than the original, and Mads is gonna make such a great villain
Death Stranding, but now more Kojima than ever.
An alternate Death Stranding teaser trailer was released during Hideo Kojima's PlayStation Experience panel this weekend.
It's visually identical to the Death Stranding teaser trailer from The Game Awards, as far as I can tell, but it's set to the strains of Easy Way Out by Low Roar. The trailer feels quite different with this soundtrack, and some of the pacing, notably when Guillermo del Toro's character makes the decision to venture under the bridge again, makes it seem as if this might have been the original edit.
As we saw in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeros and The Phantom Pain, Kojima's a big fan of matching music to cinematics. I think it really works for this Death Stranding trailer.
Also during the Death Stranding PlayStation Experience panel, Kojima confirmed the character played by Mads Mikkelsen is the antagonist of the game, which is pretty exciting because I love both villains and Mads Mikkelsen.
Does that make Norman Reddus's sobbing character the protagonist? Honestly, we all know Kojima's playing with us but that hasn't stopped the Death Stranding theories from multiplying.
Finally, I'd like to share this Tumblr post in which true poetry is spun and a new Death Stranding term is coined.
As far as I am concerned "Squad Leader Mads and the Skeleton Lads" is now canon and must be employed in all Death Stranding discussions going forward.
I have been feeling sort of estranged from Kojima since Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, but Death Stranding is sucking me back in by being gorgeously weird - and also for featuring Mikkelsen, a blessing after which much may be forgiven.
