With Sony's PlayStation 4 ahead in sales and the Nintendo Switch coming up from behind rather quickly, Microsoft's Xbox One is in a hard place. Is Scorpio the herald of Xbox's return to the competition?

Xbox One X

We finally know what Project Scorpio is called: Xbox One X. The upgraded Xbox One is coming worldwide on November 7, 2017. Enough power for 4K gaming, 4K UHD Blu-Ray support, with faster load times and enhanced visual fidelity for even non-4K games via supersampling. All in the smallest Xbox ever. Xbox One X will cost $499.

Forza Motorsport 7

Of course, Microsoft showed the Xbox One X off with Forza Motorsport 7. Racing games are always a great way to show off improved console graphics and Forza Motorsport 7 is no different. Real-world course, reproduced beautifully in 4K, with dynamic weather and more. Forza Motorsport 7 launches on Windows 10 and Xbox One on October 3.

Metro Exodus

4A Games, the folks behind the Metro series, showed off the newest title in the series running in engine. Metro Exodus features a player trying to survive in a harsh post-apocalyptic wasteland, fighting mutated bears and dogs.

Assassin's Creed Origins

Ubisoft showed off the latest Assassin's Creed. Origins will feature Ba Yek, the last of the Magi. Think of him as an ancient sheriff, who will also be the man to become the first assassin. The gameplay demo showed Ba Yek returning to his hometown of Siwa. Eagle Vision actually comes through the eyes of an eagle, with Assassin's Creed taking on some aspects of Splinter Cell, like target marking. A new combat system with parrying recalls some recent third-person action games. Assassin's Creed Origins also seems to feature a leveling system and extensive gear, with Ba Yek taking a bow from a downed foe.

Assassin's Creed Origins will launch on October 27, 2017.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

The battle royale game that's taken Steam by storm will be coming to Xbox One exclusively this year. The game will be coming to Xbox One late 2017 via the Game Preview program. The final game is planned for a launch in 2018.

Deep Rock Galactic

This looked to be a four-player action-adventure game, featuring a quartet of high-tech dwarves mining and fighting aliens. Deep Rock Galactic is coming in early 2018.

State of Decay 2

Undead Labs' zombie survival game is getting a sequel! State of Decay 2 features the same survival gameplay and human management play as the first. Shoot zombies, build shelter, and murder those who would turn against you. State of Decay 2 is coming to Xbox One in early 2018.

The Darwin Project

This multiplayer survival game comes care of Scavengers Studio. The Darwin Project is scheduled for launch on Xbox One and PC in spring 2018.

Minecraft

This summer, Minecraft will offer unified cross-play on all platforms via Xbox Live. In addition, community content like servers and player-made skins will be joining every version of the title! This Fall, Minecraft will also be getting the Super Duper Graphics Pack, with new textures and animations for a 4K presentation.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Arc System Works 2.5D fighter is coming to Xbox One, with improved graphics on the Xbox One X. Dragon Ball FighterZ isn't exclusive, but it's coming in early 2018.

Black Desert Online makes its console launch exclusive on Xbox One.

This 2.5D adventure recalls Out of This World, albeit with amazing graphics.

The Artful Escape

Another indie title, featuring a rockin' hero and his magical guitar. Artful Escape is coming "when it's damn ready", according to the developer.

Namco Bandai's Soulslike adventure is coming to Xbox One in early 2018.

Sea of Thieves

Rare's multiplayer pirate adventure gets another look, with the demo players exploring a sunken shipwreck. Then the team goes tomb raiding, rading a series of cryptic riddles to find hidden treasure deep within a cave. The demo also showed off ship-to-ship combat in the middle of a crazy storm. Sea of Thieves will be coming in early 2018.

Tacoma finally has a release date! Fullbright's next title was previously announced, but now we finally have a release date! Tacoma is coming to Xbox One on August 2.

Lucky's Tale, a former VR platformer for Oculus Rift, is getting another shot with a new Xbox One adventure! Super Lucky's Tale is coming to Xbox One on November 7, 2017.

Crackdown 3

Terry Crew joined the conference via video to hype folks up for Crackdown 3! All the mayhem and orb collecting that we've been missing for years is returning. Crackdown 3 will coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 on November 7, 2017.

Ashen

People without faces fight against the monsters hiding in the darkness. Ashen is an indie action role-playing game focused on co-op play, with players working together to push back the darkness. Ashen is coming to Xbox One and PC in 2018.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm

The Life is Strange prequel has a name! Before the Storm looks to tell Chloe's story before Max returned. Dontnod's episodic adventure will return on August 31, 2017 with the first of three episodes.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

On the Xbox stage, Monolith showed off new Shadow of War features, including Nemesis ambushes and army battles. Middle-Earth fans will be rolling in their graves, as Shadow of War features a Middle-Earth buddy comedy between Talion and his Orc bros. Shadow of War is coming on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on October 10, 2017.

Anthem

After a tease at the EA Play press event, we finally got a full look at Anthem. In Anthem, you play as Freelancers, armored heroes who leave the walls of Tarsis in armored exosuits known as Javelins. Imagine Destiny with a dynamic open-world and you have an idea of what Anthem is. This is what Bioware's A team has been doing. Anthem is coming in 2018.
