Alien: Isolation designer: crafted items not useful for long

Gary Napper, lead designer on Alien: Isolation at Creative Assembly, discussed with OPM UK a little more about crafting in the studio's warily anticipated horror title. And the long and short of it is that you'll need to craft a lot because as you use what you've made the xenomorph will adapt its tactics.

“Finding something you can use, it might work as a once off, and you’re like ‘yes’ and the next time it might not work as well,” Napper said. “Slowly you suddenly realise that this thing is learning from you and adapting to how you play."

While the things you construct may end up being elaborate -- they're not talking much specifics here -- CA is at least attempting to stay somewhat grounded.

"It’s about scavenging and finding things you can imagine to be in that environment, small fire arms and stuff like that you can craft basic rudimentary devices from. We’re not giving you plasma rifles, launchers and electric guns and stuff like that. It needs to stay within that chunky realm of believability.”
