Activision announces Call of Duty XP LA event for September

Activision's announced Call of Duty: XP, a brand new event similar to Blizzcon that's all about CoD that will take place in September.

Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer will be fully unveiled for the first time during the two-day event, as well as the "full feature functionalty" of Call of Duty Elite and a $1 million multiplayer Black Ops tournament sponsored by Activision and Xbox 360.

Don't expect CoD XP to focus on other properties, like with with Blizzard and Blizzcon, though.

"This is a pure experience to give back to the Call of Duty fan community," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told Joystiq. "It is completely focused on Call of Duty."

It has gotten some advice from Blizzard on how to run the show, though.

"We've learned everything we could from Blizzard with their experience with BlizzCon. They were very helpful giving us some of the cheat sheet and learnings from past experiences."

6,000 people are expected to show up in a TBA area in Los Angeles for the event. Tickets will go on sale for $150, with all proceeds going to the Call of Duty Endowment.

If you aren't able to make it personally, you'll still be able to tune in via Facebook and YouTube.

Tickets go on sale on July 19. Event begins on September 2 and ends on September 3. There's more details on what to expect on its website.
